Matrix students play at the first UK JOC Jan 2016

Click 'read more' to watch the four performers from Matrix play their compositions at this composition concert, held in the concert hall at Birmingham University.

The performers were Max Blansjaar, Kate Taylor, Eliya Dhesi and Martin Ludden, all either current students or graduates of the Junior Advanced Course. These videos represent lots of hard work not only by the students, but also the teachers involved in developing and supporting these young composers as they prepared for this concert: Lindsay MacKenzie, Antonia King, Rachel Pearmain and Rossella Rubini. Well done to all!

UK composition concert Burton on Trent, January 2015

Beatrice Marshall and Max Blansjaar, along with classmates and choir of JXC and JAC students, travelled by coach with teachers and families to Burton on Trent to perform their compositions alongside other composers from Burton and Nottingham Yamaha Music Schools. Beatrice, helped by her friends, played 'Dream Castle'; and Max played his piece 'The Cat and the Butterfly'. It was a lovely event, inspiring to all who took part - we are looking forward to lots of new compositions!

Nathan plays at the 2010 EJOC in Vienna

Nathan Hawkes, 11, represented the UK at this year's EJOC. His composition, 'Forest in a Nutshell', has three movements: The Squirrel, The Bear and The Eagle. Co-performers included students from Germany, France, Austria, Greece and Portugal. Nathan is currently studying JXC Book 8 with Antonia King.

Imogen performs her piece at EJOC in Paris, 2007

Imogen Reay, 11, travelled to Paris in the company of family, teachers and classmates, where she performed alongside young composers from Italy, France and Germany. Her composition is entitled 'The Chicken and the Rooster'.This was the second ever European JOC - and Imogen was the UK's first ever performer in an international original concert!
