Matrix Arts Centre is
a purpose-built, award-winning centre for
music and other arts which was set up in 1989
by Lindsay MacKenzie and George Taylor and
obtained charitable status in 1993. The Yamaha
Music School at Matrix has been in existence
from the very start, providing a refreshingly
musical start to hundreds of students in our
area.
Matrix offers music scholarships
to those who would like their child to learn
but would otherwise be unable to afford it.
We are very grateful to the Gannett
Foundation for enabling us to give music
sessions to Foundation Stage and scholarships
to pupils from our local village school.
The hub of Matrix is the
main hall, with a seating capacity of 120.
It has a gallery, good lighting arrangements,
sprung maple floor, dance barres and basic
back stage facilities. The hall is used for
chamber concerts, student concerts, music
tuition, dance lessons, keep fit sessions
and art exhibitions. A further three large
studios cater for slightly smaller classes,
ensembles and art groups. On the first floor
there are four music practice rooms for individual
tuition and study and for small groups. Additional
facilities include a kitchen which is available
for everyone to make tea and coffee, a changing
room, a shower room and south facing garden.
Car parking is free and adjacent.
If you are a music teacher, we rent rooms
for tuition at extremely competitive rates
and hold Associated Board music examinations
and Yamaha Music Foundation examinations three
times a year. Our pianos are tuned regularly,
our facilities are of a very high standard
and the hall is available for our teachers
to hold student concerts.
We have strong links with Oxford
Brookes University, with several graduates
and undergraduates among our Yamaha Music
School teachers. We provide excellent training
and ongoing support, a wonderful job and a
great place to work, so no wonder it is attractive
to those who are starting out on their music
teaching career!
